ABSTRACT
A total of 2530 persons(1009 from Town and 1521 from suburban villages were selected randomly and examined by formalin ether concentration method . The overall prevalence of infection was (73.68%). The most common helminths were Ascaris lumbricoides (23.68%), Trichuris trichiura (11.26%) ,Hymenolepis nana (8.22%), and the most common pathogenic intestinal protozoa was Giardia lamblia (22.29%).
Multiple infections with pathogenic parasites were noted in 17.28%.
of subjects.Ascaris and Trichuris were twice more prevalent in urban areas than that in rural areas , in contrast Hymenolepis nana was more prevalent in rural areas , while the level of Giardia and Entamoeba histolytica were not significantly different.
