Introduction: Borderline personality disorder is the most common personality disorder in psychiatric settings.
Objective: To compare the efficacy of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Schema Therapy (ST) on impulsive behavior in patients with borderline personality disorder in the of Buali hospital Qazvin.
Materials and Methods: the present study was an applied one and the method of data collection was semi-experimental with pre-test and post-test including control group. The study population included all the patients with borderline personality disorder referred to Buali hospital of Qazvin. The study sample included 36 students who were selected by convenience sampling method. Of these, 24 patients were randomly divided into two groups of 12 subjects experimental and a control group of 12 patients. We used clinical interview and Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11 (BIS). Patients with borderline personality disorder in the experimental groups received intervention for 16 sessions of 45 minutes in 16 consecutive weeks. Research data analysis was done using univariate and multivariate analysis of covariance and Tuky post hoc test.
Results: The results showed a significant difference between the effectiveness of schema therapy and of dialectical behavior therapy on impulsive behavior at the level of P<0.05. Also, there was no significant difference between the schema therapy and of dialectical behavior therapy in patients with borderline personality disorder in mentioned variable at the level of P<0.05.
Conclusion: Schema therapy and of dialectical behavior therapy are effective in reducing impulsive behavior in patients with borderline personality disorder.
