ABSTRACT:
A descriptive study was done to show the prevalence of psychiatric disorders arising from war. Of 1850 hospitalized patients at Mirzakoochak Hospital, 223 patients who had psychiatric disorders due to war were studied by means of questionnaire and clinical interview according to DSM -III -R criteria.
The mean age was 22.95 with standard deviation :5.59+. The results showed that %65.5 of patients had anxiety disorders and %87.2 of them had PTSD.
Of the whole patients, %29.5 had various forms of psychosis and %5 had the diagnosis of malingering, from associated factors : %87.5 of the patients were exposed to explosion waves ,%61.4 of them were military forces, %67 were single ,%53 lived in rural areas , %32.7 were 21-24 years old ,%11 were illiterate and %2.5 had a history of psychiatric disorders in their families.
