Background: Hospitals’ managers, with appropriate leadership style, provide the environment to increase job engagement so that nurses can increase their motivation. Nursing is the main component of the health care sector and leadership as an introduction to employee job engagement, and transformational leadership is one of the most important leadership styles that fosters higher levels of employees’ job engagement.
Objective: This research seeks to investigate the effect of transformational leadership style on the job engagement of nurses at Guilan University of Medical Sciences, considering the mediating role of organizational identity.
Methods: The method of this research is descriptive and correlational. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling with SPSS26 and SmartPLS3 software.
Results: Transformational leadership has an effect on organizational identity and job engagement. The intensity of the effect of organizational identity on job engagement is 0.482.The results of the Sobel test showed the intensity of the mediation role as 0.529.
Conclusion: transformational leadership had an impact on the organizational identity of nurses with an intensity of 0.473. The influence of leadership style on job engagement was also confirmed (0.203). Which is consistent with previous results. Based on this, it can be seen that by strengthening transformational leadership capabilities in Guilan University of Medical Sciences, the organizational identity and job engagement of nurses will be improved.
